'Help us in fight against criminals who damage'

ISLANDERS are right not to tolerate criminal damage, no matter how petty, head of law enforcement Patrick Rice said yesterday.

And he called on everyone to help police in their fight against a crime which was on the increase. He was speaking after his annual report showed that there were 518 cases in 2014, compared to 447 the previous year, but that the detection rate had increased from 21% to 27%.

That was evidence, he said, of how much effort Guernsey Police was putting into tackling the problem.

He admitted it was difficult to investigate, because there were not necessarily any hotspots that his officers could target. But he said it remained a top priority next to economic crime.

'If you are a victim please report it to us, or if you are a witness to this sort of crime, please come forward and help us prosecute these people.'
