Minister defends ramp cost Tweet

A PEOPLE'S deputy must report the people's views, the Housing minister said yesterday after raising concerns about a new pontoon via Twitter.

The online comment that an £84,000 pontoon was too heavy caused a minor row between deputies Dave Jones and Barry Brehaut, who said the social network was not the forum for Deputy Jones' comments towards the harbour director.

Deputy Jones ignited the exchange by saying he had 'received information' about the harbour director spending £80,000 on a pontoon that was too heavy and that if this was true it would represent 'incompetence on a scale that has to be addressed quickly'.

Deputy Brehaut had no issue with Deputy Jones raising questions about the pontoon and its cost, but thought the manner in which he had done so left a lot to be desired.
