ABOUT 600 islanders yesterday called on the States to reverse immediately the 'disastrous' changes to the Town seafront.

Despite falling short in numbers of pressure group Enough is Enough's previous demonstration, which saw more than 2,000 attend, co-organiser Ray Marshall was pleased with the turnout on North Beach, given the weather and Wimbledon men's final could have pushed people away.

'For other people it may be apathy.

'A lot of people have been saying "I'm not coming down because what difference will it make?",' he said.

'They may have had things to say but they don't feel they would have been addressed.

'One lady told me she had emailed a number of deputies and none of them had responded.'

While Public Services minister Scott Ogier and Environment minister Yvonne Burford did not attend, the crowd was addressed by chief minister Jonathan Le Tocq, who has created a working party to deal with the issue, and deputies Mary Lowe and Lester Queripel, who spoke against the changes.
