Other locations 'more appropriate' than Green Acres for dementia care home

DESPITE the large numbers in support of converting the former Green Acres hotel into a dementia care facility, some have been left 'greatly disappointed' with yesterday's decision to approve the planning application.

Those disgruntled by the move cited the subsequent damage to tourism through the loss of the hotel and the fact that Health and Social Services should be taking responsibility for the care of dementia patients instead of three privately-employed doctors, who would run the new facility.

George Le Page, 82, a former Chamber of Commerce president, said there were other locations 'more appropriate' for a dementia care facility.

'We keep losing hotels for accommodation for elderly people and I think there are more suitable sites that would ensure hotels could stay available for tourists.

'The recently closed St Andrew's School for example, would work well.

'Tourists are important too, they bring in valuable money for the island. There needs to be a facility like this, but I think this is the wrong location.'
