Parish's last ditch bid to keep open road to Saints Harbour

A FINAL attempt is being made by St Martin's Douzaine to keep Saints Harbour Road open to the public after a two-year disagreement with planners over safety poles.

Published

The parish installed the 37 metal poles in the road leading to the tiny harbour two-and-a-half-years ago.

Senior constable Gerry Tattersall said the move was taken after numerous cars had gone over the edge.

The douzaine did not submit a planning application since the road belongs to the parish and the poles were put in as a road safety measure.

However, it was asked to apply for permission retrospectively and that application was rejected.

The parish has now submitted another application, which involves the removal of 12 posts, and it hopes this will be successful.
