Environment was ordered to change the controversial Town Quay layout back to two southbound lanes by the Policy Council's Town Seafront Working Party. Its board will be meeting tomorrow to consider the recommendation.

The move could not come soon enough for many islanders, including 42-year-old Mel Taylor. 'It has got to go back to the way it was and it better do,' the personal assistant said.

'It was just the amount of congestion it caused and even people coming off Condor have to wait half an hour just to get out of North Beach – it is not a very good advert for the island.'

Enough is Enough campaigner Ray Marshall was still sceptical as to whether Environment would agree to the working party's recommendation. 'From our point it just needs to go and go back to how it was before.
