Bailiwick fisherman to be banned from UK waters

THE UK Government will prevent Bailiwick fisherman from fishing in UK/EU waters in response to the States refusal to enact UK quota controls locally.

The Minister of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, George Eustice MP, has suspended the Fisheries Management Agreement between the UK and the Bailiwick and suspended the reciprocal UK licences held by Bailiwick vessels with effect from 1 August.

Commerce and Employment minister Kevin Stewart said: 'This decision by the Minister of State has come out of the blue.'

Last week the Guernsey Press reported on the disagreement over quota controls for ray – with warnings if the restrictions were imposed it would ruin the local industry.
