The owners have been fined a total of £9,000 after mouse droppings were found in various places and dirty cloths were being stored on a meat-slicer.

A dead mouse was discovered on a glue board underneath the sandwich preparation unit.

There were holes and gaps in all areas which gave access to pests and the officers, who were acting on a complaint from a member of the public in May 2013, formed the view that cleaning throughout had been poor.

The proprietor agreed to close the premises for remedial work to be carried out and the fire alarm was set-off so customers would leave.

The following day one of the officers, Ms Rirsch, returned to the premises to meet with a pest control operative who was shown areas of concern.
