GUERNSEY'S row with Defra over fish quotas has intensified with the chief minister calling on the island's representatives in Westminster to step in.

In a letter to Lord Faulks after the UK's Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs banned local fishermen from UK and EU waters, Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq, pictured, says its action 'cuts right across the UK's relationship with Guernsey'.

'There is very strong disappointment in Guernsey that the Ministry of Justice has not sought to avert this situation more actively, it is our hope that the Ministry of Justice will now actively support the Bailiwick of Guernsey in seeking a resolution that is mutually acceptable to the Bailiwick and to Defra in line with its role in managing the UK's relationship with the Crown Dependencies,' said Deputy Le Tocq in the letter.

It means 28 Guernsey boats can no longer fish in UK waters.
