ALDERNEY Week drew to a close on Saturday with a spectacular firework display and a torchlight procession.

Around 1,500 people are thought to have taken part in the traditional final event, which saw torches lit at the Island Hall to create a river of light flowing towards the Butes.

It came after a packed day of activities starting with the sandcastle competition on Braye Beach, with entries constructed around the theme of cowboys and aliens.

Hard on the heels of that event, the claxon sounded to mark the start of the daft raft race.

After a soggy start to the week, the sun shone on the 40 or so teams who were battling to get their rafts around the buoy first.
