The long-serving police sergeant, 49, who gave his address as the police station, pleaded guilty to 10 offences, which took place between July and October 2014, when he appeared at Magistrate's Court.

These included four charges related to the forging of change of keeper forms, so he could acquire the use of the vehicle himself – three of these counts relating to vehicles with four-digit plates.

Tostevin also pleaded guilty to making a false representation to a woman that a vehicle would be donated to Guernsey Fire and Rescue, but then arranging for the vehicle to be registered to him.

The Guernsey Police Traffic Sergeant also admitted three counts of performing a function, with intent to access data, on a Home Department computer, which he knew was unauthorised.

A further two charges related to obtaining personal data without the consent of the data controller.

His case was adjourned for a probation report to be prepared and he was granted unconditional bail.
