A SUSPENSION on reciprocal UK licences issued to Guernsey-registered vessels has been lifted, following the recent fishing row.

Commerce and Employment announced the news that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs had agreed to lift the ban for vessels registered by the Marine Management Organisation. It said the MMO has contacted licence holders to inform them of the decision.

However, Defra has not lifted the suspension on the Fisheries Management Agreement at this time.

A Commerce and Employment spokesman said: 'The department has been advised that this has been done as "a sign of good faith" while further discussions take place and that these licences are restored "pending the outcome of these discussions".'

The department, along with the Policy Council, remain willing to continue discussions with Defra in order to resolve this matter, it said.
