Jurats found Andrew Penney, who had denied the offence in the Royal Court, not guilty by a majority of 7-2.
However, they were unanimous in finding Penney guilty of an alternative charge, which he had also denied, of attempting to take possession of the Class B drug.
The verdicts came after Judge Russell Finch had given a review of the evidence provided during the three-day trial.
Penney will be sentenced in October and was bailed with conditions while a probation report is prepared.
