Liberation's return is blocked by cruise ship

PASSENGERS were stranded after Condor Liberation cancelled its stop in Guernsey yesterday afternoon due to concerns over the position of a small cruise ship in one of the berths and adverse weather conditions.

Harbour master Captain Chad Murray said the fast ferry had been due to arrive at berth two yesterday, but he understood that the master had concerns over the position of the Hebridean Princess cruise ship, stationed in a nearby berth, during the choppy weather.

The ferry's no-show sparked anger from some customers.

One UK holidaymaker, said her granddaughter had to wait in a car seat for four and a half hours, as her son and family tried to get away.

'There was a lot of arguing and shouting whilst people were trying to find out just what was happening, especially as everyone you asked sent you to someone else who still couldn't answer your questions,' she said.

Captain Murray, explaining the events, said that as part of harbour operations the small cruise ship had been asked to move from another berth, to allow for two Condor ferries to arrive, but when the Liberation came in, there were concerns over the Hebridean Princess's new position.

He said Condor had requested whether the cruise ship could go out to sea, while the Liberation came in, but this was not possible due to the weather.
