FUNDRAISING events are being held to keep the Christmas lights twinkling in Town this festive period and for years to come.

The Constables of St Peter Port Christmas Lights Charity, formed by parish douzeniers, needs £100,000 to replace all the bulbs, cabling, sockets and other elements that come with the lights, and it is hoped that would last another 10 to 15 years.

The committee is made up of John Sarre, Danielle Sebire, Mike Garrett and Jacquie Robin and the aim of the fundraising is to bring the community together.

However, it will need around £30,000 a year to 'stand still' and Mr Sarre said it costs £23,000 just to put the lights up, take them down and pack them away.

'Apart from Smith Street and the Town Church Square, all need replacing,' Mr Sarre said.
