Three UK runners and two local men are spending 48 hours on treadmills in Market Terrace. They started at noon yesterday.

UK runner Adam Holland managed to break the treadmill record for the men's half marathon, after completing it in one hour, 10 minutes and 20 seconds.

Fellow UK runner Abi Schofield just missed the women's half marathon treadmill record by 15 seconds, but has pledged to try again today.

Robert Young, aka Marathon Man UK, is also running in the marquee, along with islanders Warren Mauger and Philip Smith.

The preparation has not all been smooth sailing for Mr Mauger, who kicked a door frame accidentally, splitting open his foot on Thursday evening.

'It's all bound up and I was told I should not really run,' he said.

But he said it was really important to keep going to raise money for the good causes.

The runners hope to raise £100,000, which will go towards charities This is Epic, the Hub, Dreams Come True and the NSPCC.
