Josh's cousins Danielle and Kristy Grant, and his uncle Gerry Grant, all from Guernsey, were left blown away by his now-famous and emotional rendition of Labrinth's hit Jealous, which has been re-watched millions of times on YouTube since Sunday and saw Josh trending worldwide on Twitter.

His 77-year-old gran Jean Grant, who is currently visiting the island, said she was still 'numb' from the reaction her grandson received on the talent show, which saw Cowell, AKA Mr Nasty, overcome with emotion.

Josh's version of Jealous was in memory of his childhood friend Tom Woolley, who died aged 18.

Danielle Grant, 33, said Josh had been a regular visitor to Guernsey and was last over a couple of years ago, when he was mourning the loss of his friend Tom.

Miss Grant, who is engaged to get married, said Josh was due to sing at her wedding next year.

'It was a bit mind-blowing to see him on the show,' she said. 'He is singing at my wedding, as long as he is not too busy. It is just surreal.'

Miss Grant said they all knew how personal the heart-wrenching performance was for Josh.

'All the pain he has been through losing his friend has pushed him to his goal,' she said.

Her sister Kristy Grant, 22, said Josh's late friend Tom had always encouraged him to do The X Factor and this was his third time auditioning.

'Everyone is behind him,' she said.
