A day after Adrian Taylor and John Woodhatch were each sentenced to five years in prison for their role in the scam , Detective Chief Inspector Phil Breban said he was pleased at the outcome.

It had taken complex police work which needed assistance from the City of London police, he said, and showed the force was capable of dealing with this level of sophisticated crime.

'From the outset it was obvious that a complex fraud had been committed, and the subsequent diversion of the funds was complex,' said DCI Breban.

'All frauds are difficult because of the methods they use, and because they evolve, we have to keep up. We have an experienced team and we have methods where we can trace. Guernsey law enforcement will pursue and use national

resources that are available.'

The fraud occurred in the middle of June 2012, when someone pretending to be from Lagan, who had been awarded the airport contract, rang up Treasury and asked for bank details to be changed.
