Salerie is still lethal, says cyclist after crash

A CYCLIST has described how he was knocked from his bike at a 'lethal' Salerie Corner junction, just a few metres from where a former colleague died in another collision.

Martin Le Page, who escaped with muscle spasm in his neck and other minor injuries, is now among those leading calls for urgent changes to the Salerie Corner entrance and exit, and for them to be fast-tracked by Environment before another tragedy occurs.

The 41-year-old was a colleague of Advocate David Allison, who died in April 2013 after being hit by a lorry at another junction at Salerie Corner, near the QEII slipway, which has since been blocked.

Environment has carried out a review of the whole cycle path and introduced initial safety improvements. Deputy minister Barry Brehaut has said it is drawing up designs for a safer, new-look entrance and exit at Salerie Corner as part of its plans, but no clear timeline has been given.

'It is lethal there,' said Mr Le Page.
