Midnight Runway Run held for Crimestoppers

A GROUP of 111 runners took part in the inaugural Crimestoppers Runway Run at Guernsey Airport on Saturday night.

The 5K course took participants west down the taxiway before turning onto the main runway and climbing its length, guided only by the landing lights and some marshals provided by Civil Protection. There was another right turn before a shorter loop of the runway led to a fast downhill finish in front of the Aeroclub balcony.

The idea for the run evolved from thoughts of doing a midnight mile to was to help raise the Guernsey Crimestoppers' profile.

'We were blessed with dry weather, great times, and a very spirited occasion, exemplified by the runners when they finished applauding others across the line. There was a real team spirit,' said Guernsey Crimestoppers' Mike Smith from the organisation.

'This was obviously the inaugural event and subject to the airport authority allowing it, we'd be delighted to organise another – hopefully bigger and better.'
