Round-island kayakers 'spoilt' by weather

GOOD weather meant it was third-time lucky for participants in the Crimestoppers round-island kayak challenge as they took to Bailiwick waters on Saturday.

The charity held a similar event in 2011 and the aim is to circumnavigate the island inside eight hours, 55 minutes and 11 seconds – a time based on the Crimestoppers anonymous telephone number, 0800 555 111.

It was originally due to take place on 15 September, but due to bad weather had been postponed.

It was also a repeat of what happened four years ago, since it was not until the third attempt that they could successfully complete the challenge, following postponements due to weather.

There were 14 people who took part in this year's challenge, which was raising money for Safer Guernsey, Channel Islands Air Search, the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, as well as other charities that participants were supporting personally.
