No extra planning meetings for those unable to turn up

NO MORE extra planning inquiry hearings will be held to accommodate people unable to turn up, planning inspector Alan Boyland has said.

The comment follows the failure of anyone from the tourism part of Commerce and Employment to attend a debate on proposed changes to tourism rules in the draft Island Development Plan on Thursday.

An extra hearing was scheduled for yesterday, and five members of Commerce and Employment attended, as well as several of the representatives who had attended the day before.

Policy officer Phil Henderson said that the hearing had been told Thursday was unsuitable due to other engagements and another date would be required.

But Mr Boyland said the inquiry – which is being conducted as a round table discussion with all parties on each topic – could not be adjusted for individual diaries.

The hearings continue at 2pm on Monday at Les Cotils, with discussions on housing outside the centres.
