Bravery award to knife attack hero

JUMPING in during a potential knife attack in a Town bar has earned former bar manager Kyle Lorimer one of this year's top Law Enforcement awards.

The 25-year-old said it was his last night as manager of the Townhouse in the High Street when the confrontation unfolded between rival groups of Guernsey and Jersey youths and one of them suddenly pulled a knife.

While he was honoured to receive the Crime Prevention Panel Award, Mr Lorimer said he was just doing his job.

'It was a knee-jerk reaction,' he said. 'At the time I didn't think about it. I just saw the knife and saw the potential for someone being stabbed and did everything I could to stop that happening.'

As the fight unfolded, Mr Lorimer grabbed the knife-wielder and wrestled with him, forcing him outside, with the knife just inches from him.

After the man had calmed down and put away the knife, the rival gang came to attack him, forcing Mr Lorimer to come inbetween them.

He later got head-butted by the knife-wielder and it was only later that his fiancee, who works at the bar, discovered what had happened.

'Just as the police arrived, in a last attempt to get free, I got a nice head-butt to the nose.'

Mr Lorimer's story of bravery was just one of many last night as law enforcement officers and members of the public were honoured at the 2015 commendations and awards ceremony held at Les Cotils.
