Mike Meinke, the band's singer, guitar and didgeridoo player, was delighted at being placed at the top spot.

The band formed only last year. It recorded an album called Sunrise and sent it off to radio stations in the UK. One of them, XRP, nominated the band.

'We found out we were nominated and therefore in the top 10 of a few thousand acts.

'Then it was a public vote which started last week. People have been incredibly generous.

'There is a little trophy we have got. We will have to have a little fight over where that is going, and we get some coverage from a few magazines, so the main thing for us is the exposure. We have gained a lot of exposure from this.'
