Alderney runway delay 'could lead to an accident'

PUBLIC SERVICES minister Scott Ogier has insisted that it will be 'difficult if not impossible' to start upgrade work on Alderney's runway next year in line with the wishes of the island's States members.

But Alderney politician Neil Harvey has hit back, warning that the bureaucracy could lead to an accident.

Treasury and Resources is proposing that a decision about funding the work be delayed until the 2017-2020 capital priority programme is decided next term, raising the possibility of it missing out to other projects.

Alderney has rallied to urge Guernsey to recognise that restoring the main runway to its full width and improving its surface is of vital importance.
