The International Agency for Research on Cancer, the cancer agency of the World Health Organisation, has evaluated the carcinogenicity of the consumption of red meat and processed meat.

The experts concluded that each 50g portion of processed meat a day increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.

It said red meats were 'probably carcinogenic to humans' but there was limited evidence.

Richard Baum from the Halfway Cafe said it was all about moderation.

The cafe goes through about 2,500 slices of bacon, more than 400 sausages and around 1,000 eggs a week.
