Brewery site work 'to start in February'

WORK to build apartments on the former Guernsey Brewery site at Havelet is finally due to begin in February.

The building was demolished in 2013, but progress then stalled, leaving behind a rubble-filled building site.

Comprop, the development company which owns the site, has not commented.

But in a separate planning application for the Admiral Park site, which Comprop also owns, the long-awaited start date was published.

When the historic brewery was demolished, a lot of the granite was saved and stored in the north-west corner of the Admiral Park site.

It has been carefully numbered so that it can be reused in the new development.

Comprop has applied for retrospective planning permission to store the stones there for another two years.

'We understand that works on the former Guernsey Brewery site are to commence in February 2016,' it was stated in the application's covering letter, in a bid to reassure the planners that the granite would be moved soon.
