Legacy Team chairman Pat Johnson, who is the Floral Guernsey chairman, said around 250 tonnes of green waste had been cleared by the massive community project on the last two consecutive Sundays, to prepare the area for the next 'reinstatement' phase.

'The clearing and discovery of what the Victorian's left us is now for all to see,' he said.

'We will sit down now and work on the next phase. There will be discussions with Environment and others regarding the Victorian plants that will be chosen. Rhododendrons and ferns are likely choices.

'At the same time, the civil side will see the horseshoe pool the first to be prepared.'
