Passengers 'gamble' with no guaranteed Liberation berthing

PASSENGERS 'gambled' with their travel plans yesterday after being warned in Jersey that high winds meant Condor Liberation might not berth in Guernsey, potentially leaving them stranded in the UK.

The uncertainty persuaded 35 out of the 111 passengers not to board the afternoon fast ferry in Jersey, with some passengers claiming they were told that compensation was unlikely if they ended up in Poole.

Those who chose not to travel were given a full refund.

But according to posts on social media, they will have to find their own way of getting to Guernsey.

Liberation ended up docking in Guernsey at 4.45pm yesterday, around 45 minutes behind schedule, but some passengers who boarded in St Malo were annoyed that they were completely in the dark about the potential change of plan when they checked-in at the French port.

Olivia Smith, 20, from Australia, was travelling to Guernsey to visit family.

She said she did not have the money for a flight, so opted to take the gamble.
