Bumblebee plan 'not dead in the water'

BUMBLEBEE says it will investigate other sources of funding to secure a boat for a planned fast ferry link with Alderney after rejection by the States of Guernsey.

Guernsey-based Bumblebee Boat Cruises has spent two years developing a proposal for a year-round fast sailing between the two islands, plus seasonal crossings to Jersey and France.

The plan rested on the States of Guernsey agreeing to guarantee a £1.5m. loan to buy a 140-seat catamaran and, for the first few years of operation, subsidies from the States of Alderney.

Treasury and Resources this week confirmed it had rejected the proposal, branding Bumblebee's business case 'very optimistic'.
