Throughout the day members of the public were able to tour the Oberlands Centre, which will replace the facilities at Castel Hospital.

It is attached to Mignot House, which has been refurbished for the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

John Hunter, 70, had been a community nurse and remembered working in Castel Hospital in the 1970s.

'Back then we didn't have any electrical equipment and for example we didn't have the technology for the drips that we do nowadays.

'There definitely was a stigma attached around mental health back then, but I think as a society we have matured a lot.

'This new centre is just fantastic, though, and will take away the stigma.'
