Christmas market brings out the shoppers

CHRISTMAS arrived in Alderney this week with carols, market stalls, shops open late and the switch-on of its festive lights drawing shoppers into Victoria Street.

The popular Christmas market came after a hiatus last year and a combination of dry weather and a merry atmosphere brought shoppers into town on Wednesday for two hours of browsing, eating and entertainment.

Local choir the Alderney Voices sang a medley of Christmas classics outside the Chez Andre and stalls sold goods ranging from jewellery to mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

The afternoon saw Alderney's 30-year-old Christmas lights casting a glow over Victoria Street, while the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Christmas tree lit up the Memorial Garden.

It's a far cry from Oxford Street but residents expressed their appreciation for the work that went into it.
