The competition, in its 11th year, will see people such as a deputy head teacher and an osteopath don their dancing shoes alongside experienced local dancers.

Organiser Jamie Le Tissier said the event was Guernsey's answer to Strictly Come Dancing.

'Most people know what Strictly is about,' he said. 'This is similar but with local people.

'The atmosphere of watching anything live is far superior to television.'

Mr Le Tissier said there was a wide range of people entering.

'The names are all from different backgrounds, there are a very diverse range of people bringing different skills to this,' he said.

'The challenge is to get these non-dancers and turn them into dancers within a month.'

The competition is at Beau Sejour on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 January.
