The former Archdeacon of Lincoln replaces the Very Rev. Canon Paul Mellor, who retired in 2014.

The 59-year-old said he was settling into island life, after moving over about 10 days ago.

'I did some research before I applied for the job, but there is nothing quite like being in the island and meeting people,' he said.

He said he had no changes planned and would start his job by listening to what islanders had to say.

'I'm not coming in with a blueprint,' he said.

'That has got be worked out with colleagues and working with the island community.'

The new dean was installed as the parish rector of St Andrew's on Friday and is currently settling into his new home at the St Andrew's rectory with his wife, Judy.
