Positive talk after first Bailiwick Council

TIME will tell if the new Bailiwick Council is a success, Sark and Alderney representatives have said.

It follows the first meeting last week of political heads from the Bailiwick who discussed common challenges and opportunities faced by Alderney, Sark and Guernsey.

Alderney's Policy and Finance Committee chairman Neil Harvey thought it was especially important to open a dialogue with Sark.

'It is obviously very early days, but before, Sark and Alderney were like ships passing in the night,' he said.

'We can talk about our experiences too.

'I said about health care and transfer services, as I flew to Guernsey with someone who needed to see a consultant for a 10-minute appointment, when with a bit of modern technology in the Mignot Memorial Hospital, such as Skype, we could have used that.

'I think there will be things like that, that could be piloted in Alderney and then could be introduced in Sark.

'There is always a danger of these ending up just being all talk, but I think if you can find some real-life issues that makes all the difference.'
