Couple baffled by tax office 'incompetence'

'INCOMPETENCE' at the tax office has led to a £6,177 bill which carried a Christmas Day deadline, an angry couple have said.

Adrian and Louise Walder have lived in the island for two-and-a-half years. They had not had a problem with the income tax office until recently when bills asking for increasingly large amounts started to arrive.

'It was £1,500, then it went up to £4,000, then £5,000 and then today a bill arrived for £6,177. The irony is that when we moved to the island our first trip to Town was to visit the tax office. We did our tax return last year, and heard nothing back, we filled it in this year and then this began,' Mr Walder said.

Although initially agreeing to pay the first bill, as soon as the others started arriving, the couple arranged a meeting at the office and were shocked at the level of service they received.
