Zero hours contracts 'not likely to thrive in Guernsey'

ZERO hours contracts do not appear to be becoming more common in the island, Commerce and Employment has said.

Source Recruitment has an advert on its website for a zero hours contract job, but head of business development and senior recruiter Tony Jones said the island was not the sort of place where the contracts, which allow employers to hire staff with no guarantee of work, would thrive.

'They are weighted towards the employer, I cannot see the advantages for the employee, it is simply not an attractive way to be employed. Guernsey is still an employee market, we have more positions than we do people to fill them. We only have one client, a finance client, that advertises them,' he said.
