Call-handling answers 'not satisfactory' says deputy

ANSWERS provided by Public Services regarding the number of Joint Emergency Services Control Centre staff dealing with coastguard calls are unsatisfactory, Deputy Barry Paint has said.

The Castel deputy, pictured, asked the department written Rule 6 questions about the staffing levels and how it was a benefit cost-wise to the taxpayer.

He wrote that he understood there were now the equivalent of six full-time staff – five full- and two part-time – at Port Control.

However, he believed there were also eight full-time staff managing Guernsey Coastguard at JESCC.

He compared this with eight full-time staff equivalents (six full- and four part-time) at the harbour handling Port Control and Guernsey Coastguard prior to JESSC handling coastguard calls.

In his reply, PSD minister Scott Ogier said that was not correct, but Deputy Paint said Deputy Ogier did not give specific details on how many full-time equivalents there were at JESCC.
