Secretaries, severance pay ideas for deputies rejected

SECRETARIES, rented office space, severance pay and tax breaks were just some of the perks that were requested for deputies under a major review of their pay.

Extra pay allowances and the reintroduction of the States members' pension were also on the wish list during extensive consultation over potential changes, but the review panel rejected the requests and opted to keep largely the status quo.

Existing States members, private sector organisations and members of the public were among those consulted during the review.

The panel concluded that median earnings should continue to be the benchmark for annual increases, but recommended a further review of remuneration after the new government structure had been given a chance to 'bed in' next term.
