Church's ban on parking will hit hairdresser trade

A HAIRDRESSER is worried about the impact that the loss of parking will have on his business.

Since setting up the business at Potter's Corner, St Sampson's, in June 1976, Terry Quinn has rented spaces in the grounds of St Sampson's Church Community Hall, opposite his Hair-Tek salon.

He had a verbal agreement with the then rector to pay £75 monthly, which has continued since then by standing order.

In more recent years, salon staff have rented their own spaces individually.

Soon after the Rev. Timothy Dack became priest-in-charge of St Sampson's in October, he told Mr Quinn that the parking situation was being reviewed.

They were told later that there were plans to rent the hall out more often and that parking would be stopped from January.

When they questioned this, Mr Dack asked them to put their case in a letter that he would put before the church committee, but it refused to reverse the decision.

Mr Dack said it was a safety matter.
