Chief Pleas debates aims of Reform Law

REMOVING items that are no longer relevant in the modern age are the aims of the Sark Reform Law, the chairman of its Policy and Performance Committee has said.

Charles Maitland was speaking after the latest Chief Pleas meeting discussed the law, and said it was about ensuring the island was up to date.

Among the items contained within the law were the roles and responsibilities of the Seigneur, the Lt-Governor – who at

present has the power to approve Sark's budget – and whether the term conseiller should be replaced by deputy.

'We are trying to out things that are no longer relevant to us today,' said Conseiller Maitland.
