Police were called after a member of the public was warned that there was a device attached to a car.

Parts of Castle Emplacement were closed for nearly two hours and two bomb disposal officers were sent to the scene and investigated a red sports car which was parked on the marina side.

Shortly before 11am the road to the Emplacement was shut at its junction with the old Slaughterhouse, and vehicles were not able to turn in from South Esplanade.

Police were already on the scene and Civil Protection officers also assisted.

The incident was over shortly before 1pm.
