Affordable housing offer at Castel Hospital site

A MAJOR affordable housing development has been earmarked for the soon-to-be-defunct Castel Hospital.

The States-owned site has been offered to Housing and the Guernsey Housing Association.

Details of the potential development have emerged as the row intensifies over the future plans for affordable housing in Guernsey after the States rejected controversial proposals to extend planning covenants, intended to help impose key conditions on private developments.

Housing is now seeking legal advice over the impact this could have on the new proposed affordable housing policy contained within the draft Island Development Plan, which had aimed to use the covenants.
