Heating soon back to normal in Town Church

THE Town Church's heating system should be back in action this weekend after a new oil tank was manoeuvred carefully into place.

A crane was used to lift the bespoke stainless steel tank into the small extension on the eastern side of the building early yesterday.

There has been temporary heating in the church over the last few months.

Conservation surveyor and director Stuart Pearce, from CCD, has been overseeing the work.

He said the old tank was 40 years old and made of mild steel.

'We did some investigations and opened up a small area of masonry to look at the condition of the tank,' he said.

'We saw how badly corroded it was. It wasn't leaking, fortunately, but it was close.'
