Prince's Trust launches new scheme for young unemployed

EMPLOYMENT, volunteering and other positive outcomes are the goal of a new programme launched in the island by the Prince's Trust.

The Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12-week personal development course which provides help and support for unemployed people aged 16-25 through a residential week, work experience, practical skills, community projects and qualifications.

Among those taking part in the programme was Adam Robert, 21, who was looking forward to the challenge.

'I was with my social worker who recommended that I came along and it sounded really good, a way to change my life,' he said.

'It has already helped, as a few weeks ago I would not have been able to chat with all the people that are here today, so it has really helped my confidence, because it was really low.

'I would like to end up working for the Sports Commission, for football if possible, as I love football and play up to four times a week.'

The Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas, gave a brief speech at the launch of the programme and said it was mostly thanks to the efforts of the late Lt-Governor, Air Marshal Peter Walker, who died last September, that the Prince's Trust was making inroads in the island.
