Liberation struggles in on one engine

ENGINE problems hit Condor Liberation as she struggled to enter St Peter Port yesterday evening.

One of the engines was shut down en route from the UK.

With engineers on board working on the problem, she finally docked after 6pm.

'Condor Liberation has detected a problem with one of her lube oil filter pumps which requires the shutdown of the port engine,' said the company during the sailing.

It said it would have to operate at reduced speed.

The ferry returned to service earlier this month after a month in dry dock.

She had been due to go in during the first two weeks of February, but that work had to start early after she crashed into the dock in Poole in high winds in mid-January.

Condor said later in the evening that an unrelated problem with a steering module on the starboard engine occurred.

While the ship held off St Peter Port, engineers transferred a working part from the port to starboard engine.

Passengers were given free refreshments until Liberation could dock on two engines.

Passengers bound for Jersey were offered a transfer to Commodore Clipper (space permitting). Passengers due to travel on Liberation from Jersey to the UK were offered a choice of a refund or transfer to Commodore Clipper.

Liberation was due to leave St Peter Port at 8pm for Poole, but at 8.15 had not sailed.
