Kevin Stewart, also chairman of the External Transport Group, said how disappointed and concerned he was to learn of the technical issues and has requested a detailed explanation as soon as the faults are rectified.

On Friday evening, passengers were left circling outside St Peter Port as Liberation, which had slowed due to a problem with one of her lube oil filter pumps which required the shutdown of the port engine, then had problems berthing due to a steering fault.

The Clipper made national news after a fault meant it was not possible to lower the ramp from the upper vehicle deck, leaving 44 vehicles stuck on board.

Deputy Stewart is in Hong Kong on States business, but had been in regular contact about Condor.
