CONDOR'S French crew are now entitled to improved social security provisions after a strike on board the Rapide fast ferry two years ago prompted a law change.

In February 2014, a crew of 10 camped out on the catamaran in St Malo for 13 days as they called for the operator to implement French benefits and increase their pay.

The industrial action forced Condor to cancel several sailings and arrange alternative travel for the 250 passengers who were stranded in the French port.

Now the French parliament has passed a law ensuring all French-resident seafarers serving on flag of convenience ships have the right to join their national insurance scheme, to which employers may have to contribute.
