HSSD facing 'significant criticism' over GP case

'SIGNIFICANT criticisms' face HSSD from investigators behind the independent review into the handling of the case of Alderney GP Dr Rory Lyons, it has been claimed by one of the relatives affected by the ordeal.

The review, jointly commissioned by the States of Guernsey and the States of Alderney and conducted by the UK-based Good Governance Institute, is due to be published on Thursday and widower Arthur Wheeler claims there is criticism facing Health and Social Services over how it treated next of kin.

The authors of the report were in Alderney to brief Alderney States members on their findings yesterday and met relatives of the patients whose deaths were originally investigated, to talk to them as well.

HSSD's chief officer Dr Carol Tozer has said she does not intend to resign over the soon-to-be-published report as the department 'acted in good faith'.
