Community supports waste-disposal initiative

HERM'S new waste disposal plans have got off to a good start, with excellent support from residents and businesses. The challenge for the upcoming summer season is to inspire that same commitment from visitors.

There are now recycling areas as well as general rubbish bins on the main paths around the island and larger areas in the populated places, such as the hotel, the Mermaid campsite, the Manor Village and Seagull campsite/log cabins.

All waste must now be sent off-island in special shipments.

There are waste compactors for general rubbish that can't be recycled. It is important that glass bottles and metal items are not put into the rubbish bins as they can damage the compactor as well as contaminating the bales of rubbish.
